As my kids get older, it’s important to me that they always have a place to call their own where they can express themselves and create their own safe space. With every milestone we’ve upgraded the kids’ bedrooms—first, we redid Brody and Roman’s bedroom with beautiful murals and fun colors, then we upgraded Jackson’s room with more mature tones and furniture. Now it’s Dylan’s turn! My little girl is in high school now and coming into her own so she needs a bedroom to reflect her new style. We redecorated with must-have favorites from Castlery, Casper, and more! See how we updated her bedroom!

Upgrading the Bed

First, we had to move out that oversized bunk bed. Dylan is ready for a bigger bed of her own! We really wanted to make the room feel open and comfortable. This way she would have a space to express her creativity, focus on her homework, or just relax! For a plush comfy mattress, we opted for the Element Pro Mattress by Casper. With AirScape which increases airflow to help keep you cool and the Dual-Foam Design to offer an adaptive and embracing feel, it was the ideal bed for year-round comfort.

Leaning into clean, muted tones, we combined it with the Lexi Tufted Bed from Castlery in full size. For her linens, we snagged Castlery’s smooth and cozy Sateen Duvet Sheet Set.

Creating a Comfortable Space

On top, blankets and pillows from Pottery Barn Teen kept everything monochromatic but fun! We got Essential Decorative Pillow Inserts, Microfiber Pintuck Comforter and Sham, and the Fluffiest Ever Duvet Insert. Combined they give her bed added warmth, and volume, and create a plush, inviting focus to the room.

For a little extra character, we ordered her this adorable chunky knit blanket from Etsy and grabbed a couple of throw pillows from World Market. Dylan loves her new bed, but Darla might love it even more! It’s a comfortable, cozy spot where she can relax, and since she picked out most of the pieces it really feels like her own.

Decorating the Room

For the window treatments we used the Ladonna Crushed Texture Semi-Sheer Rod Pocket Curtain Panel and Copper Grove Nolana Shower Curtain (you can’t even tell!). The room is well-lit with the Arhaus Cascade Flushmount light in the center of her room and the Gold Adjustable Task Desk Lamp on top of the Arhaus Tremont Modular Desk. (We moved it from my home office.) For a mirror similar to hers, try the Alaia Floor Mirror from Arhaus. It bounces around a little more light and makes the room feel bigger.

Around the bed, we set two Micro Rattan Side Tables from Castlery, and under, we added their Marc Oval Jute Rug with a furry rug from Costco. With these natural textures, it ties in well with her Stikwood accent wall. Plus her blue dresser in this new space really pops! Combined with her surfboard in the corner, and beach prints from Minted, it gives it a casual coastal feel that is totally her own. This space feels elevated and sophisticated, but still perfect for Dylan and her cool-girl style!

And a very special thank you to Castlery and Casper for helping us put Dylan’s new bedroom together!
