Downtown San Diego is full of energy, and right in the center of it all is Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres. When it was time for a much-needed date night out (alone), I decided that my sports loving husband deserved a fun and romantic date night out in the city. It’s not often that Bobby and I take a moment to reset, recharge and enjoy one another (like the good ol days), so I wanted this to be a night to remember.
Moving back and forth the from the East Coast to the West, I have gained such an appreciation for San Diego and its perfect temperatures. Nestled right in the heart of the crown jewel, sits the Omni Hotel San Diego, a luxurious 21-story hotel. We specifically picked this hotel because it has all the amenities and location we needed for our “Great Escape” night of fun. Connected directly to the San Diego Padres Ballpark, the Omni has extraordinary views of the San Diego Bay. Plus, it’s perched right in the middle of the Gaslamp Quarter, giving this cooped up couple all the fun and energy we craved.
3 Tips For The Perfect Date Night In San Diego
- Get tickets to a Padres Game. Whether you love the sport or not, Petco Park’s world-class stadium makes for the ultimate date night location. It’s an architectural masterpiece that not only celebrates the game of baseball, but has state of the art amenities for every taste and every budget. My favorite hotspot within the park is the rooftop restaurant, where you can walk freely and enjoy the night sky, the cool breezes and the ambiance.
- Bring your friends, and stay at the Omni. What’s a fun date night out downtown without your baseball loving friends?! We opted for the spacious, plush and hip Tony Gywn Suite, that wrapped around the hotel providing stellar views of the city. And naturally, our friends had an adjoining room, because… why not?
All fun and games aside, the service at the Omni was superb. From the 24-hour dining, to the in-room fitness kit, they nailed it. And just like my kids, Mom and Dad crave pool time, too. Located on the 6th floor rooftop, this modern luxe pool had it all, from views to a great menu with poolside sips and bites that catered to everyone’s palate. And to top it off, dinner at McCormick & Schmick’s restaurant located on the ground floor brought me right down memory lane from my NYC days. What surprised us most – and a huge draw to come back with the kids – is the kids crew program and childcare services. Who knew?!
3. Take A Stroll and Enjoy The City. As busy parents of four, the days of Bobby and I taking a leisurely stroll to peruse the streetside stores are long gone. Because the Omni is located in the heart of it all, we took advantage of its location and enjoyed the Gaslamp Quarter. With no destination in mind, we just walked. I loved that we didn’t need to get in a car. We were able to walk and just enjoy all of the great new spots our city had to offer.
