Celebrating Dylan’s 13th Birthday With Pitch A Fête

I don’t know anyone who loves planning a party as much as I do. It doesn’t even have to be my party—I love putting together a fun, festive bash for those I love! When Dylan’s birthday neared this year, we knew we wanted to do something special: you only turn 13 once! And given that last year’s round of birthdays were homebound and lowkey, Bobby and I wanted to put together something really memorable.

Of course, easier said than done, and sometimes, you gotta just call in the pros. I discovered Pitch A Fête at just the right time. This super fun, DIY studio was a total lifesaver! They helped customize Dylan’s birthday party from start to finish, creating a boho modern experience that made things so special for Dylan and (the real win) so easy for me!

Setting the Tone

When the options are endless, sometimes it’s impossible for this mama to make a decision. Thirteen is a weird age—you’re still a kid, but you’re a lot more grown-up than before. My sweet girl is confident, independent, sweet, and free-spirited. She’s a tomboy who loves girly things. She’s so many things—how do you decide on a theme?

What I loved about Pitch A Fête is that they took a lot of that into account. They really got a sense of who our girl was and helped us narrow down a theme. From there, they can help you personalize things even more with certain props, decor pieces, and hangout areas. The vibe? Wild + Free. Totally our girl!

Extra Personal Touches

Once we landed on a theme, it was onto picking out decor. There is so much to choose from and the team was so amazing in offering options that made sense for our space. Dylan wanted an outdoor birthday bash with her friends, one where they could lounge in the yard but also have some fun in the pool. Pitch A Fête offered everything from tent experiences to specialty-designed party supplies. We landed on these super cute DIY tipi kits for each girl, topped with flowers and balloons.

The team went above and beyond, even going so far as to handpicking the fabrics and colors with their seamstress to keep the design chic yet fun. In each tipi kit came birchwood trays, rattan, battery-operated lanterns, crocheted dream catchers, cozy pink velour pillows, and a floral garland. Dylan was thrilled. It felt sophisticated but still young and free-spirited.

Easy Setup

This is the part that really sold me—how EASY it was! You guys, I’m still not over it. Everything came semi-assembled and in boxes with step-by-step directions and even an example of a complete setup. I’m no IKEA-whiz (that’s usually a job for Bobby), but everything was so streamlined. The attention to detail, like labeling the boxes and parts, took off all the pressure and allowed us to get things set up in no time. Birthdays are so fun, but also a little hectic when you’re roping a handful of girls. This helped knock one more thing off my list so I could focus on celebrating our girl!

Splashing Into 13

I’m so amazed and inspired by Dylan every day, but it’s especially nice to have a day designated for all things Dylan. My daughter teaches me new things constantly, and I loved the chance to celebrate her in a big way that was safe but so memorable. It’s these really simple touches that can completely transform a birthday, and Pitch A Fête helped me pull it off without a hitch. Now excuse me while we go in for seconds on the cake!
