As a New York City girl who still loves and longs for her seasons, I find it amusing when some San Diegans become dampened by the occasional dropping temperatures during the winter months. While some Southern Californians are chomping at the bit to wear their ski beanies and chunky sweaters, others are caught off guard when the temp drops below the 72 degrees mark. With the climate changing more frequently across the globe, it comes as no surprise that even the occasional temperature changes are happening more frequently and do take their toll on our skin.

There are so many things I love about winter. Fuzzy vests, puffy jackets, pom-pom beanies and trending boots — right down to our cozy blankets and fireside bevvies. There is one thing, however, that I just can’t appreciate about this merry season, and that’s the sudden change in the landscape of our skin. In the blink of an eye, dewy and smooth skin can transition to dry and itchy. Dove understands that seasonal changes can cause skin to become parched and depleted, and because of that, Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant has been one of my go to products for soft skin for as long as I can remember.

Now that we are officially in the winter months, we need to reboot our skincare routine. Thanks to Dove Dermatologist, Dr. Alicia Barba, these tips are simple but have that high impact our skin needs.
Pay Attention To Covered Areas
During the cooler months, it’s easy to get bundled and only pay attention to the exposed areas like your face, hands and chest. Dr. Barba recommends moisturizing beyond the exposed areas. I’m a sucker for soft skin, so what I like to do is moisturize from head to toe as soon as I get out of the shower. I also make sure my children are practicing that same ritual.
Care For Your Under Arms
Underarm skin is sensitive and according to Dr. Barba, “It shouldn’t be overlooked.” Did you know that different textures and fabrics can irritate the skin? That is why under all of those layers it is important to have a product that keeps you hydrated and protected. I can proudly say that I have been using Dove Antiperspirant for over 20 years. Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant is formulated with moisturizers that help alleviate any sort of irritation you may have resulting in softer and smoother underarms.

Why Getting Solid Sleep Matters

One of my biggest challenges is getting good sleep. After I put four little ones down, I always end up tending to the things I didn’t quite get to while my children were awake. Dr. Barba reminds us that getting into a bedtime routine will actually hydrate the skin. She recommends the following nightly routine:

1. Wash Your Face
2. Apply A Retinol
3. Moisturize

And from one mom to the next, I then moisturize my entire body including my feet. When I do this, I actually get a better night’s sleep.
Invest In A Hydrating Cleanser
Dr. Barba reminds us how important it is to use a cleanser that’s hydrating. There are many cleansers out there that tend to dry out the skin, and for my family, that simply will not work. Two of my four kids suffer from eczema, so we are always seeking out the best moisturizing cleanser. Another mom tip: be sure and always moisturize after a gentle exfoliation. You will feel amazing, and your skin will thank you for it! Which reminds me, one of my friends has recently recommended a new skin care brand for me to try. Lalisse are Australian made skincare products using natural ingredients. If you’ve got oily, combination, or acne-prone skin they’ve got you covered!
Year Round Sunscreen
Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply sunscreen. Those harmful rays still exist throughout every season, even on cloudy days. Be sure to add sunscreen after you moisturize. Personally, I like to buy makeup and moisturizers that include the SPF in them. Thank you Dr. Barba for reminding us that harmful UV rays don’t take a break for cold weather.

As a busy mom of four, I keep an arsenal of moisturizers and sunscreens in plenty of places, ensuring our family will be protected from both the cold weather and the sun’s harmful rays. And on any given day, my Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant is right alongside them to ensure my underarms moisturized and to keep irritation at bay. I encourage you to also try this tried and true brand by clicking here.
Lastly, covering your family’s skin with warm clothing and reducing exposure to outdoor cold can also help to avoid the environmental assault on skin. That one may be a given, but you can never be too cautious when it comes to skin. If you have any tips you would like to share, I would love to hear from you. Comment Below!
