Why we traded dinner for diagnostics and what we learned about our health
If motherhood has taught me anything, it’s that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish — it’s strategic.
And if we’re being honest? A lot of my “self-care” over the years has been about the outside. The facials, the lasers, the serums — I love them all (and I’m not giving them up anytime soon). But lately, as I get older and hopefully a little wiser, I’ve started thinking more about what’s happening underneath it all.
We spend so much time treating what we can see — but what about the parts we can’t? That’s what got Bobby and me talking about this idea of inside-out wellness. Instead of waiting for something to go wrong, what if we could really understand what was happening inside our bodies — before we ever felt a symptom?
So, together, we booked full-body health scans with CoreViva — a high-tech, non-invasive way to get a clear picture of your health from head to toe. It was something new for both of us, and what we learned from the experience completely changed how we think about wellness — not as just maintenance, but as empowerment.

A Different Kind of Self-Care Day
The morning of our scans felt like a “date,” but with a twist. Instead of heading to brunch or errands, we were off to check in on something far more important — our health.
Walking into CoreViva instantly put us at ease. The space felt calm and elevated — more like a spa than a medical office. Their team was warm and professional, walking us through exactly what to expect. No waiting room stress, no sterile vibe — just a peaceful environment focused entirely on you.
It honestly felt like a luxury wellness experience — but one that gave us something deeper than relaxation: clarity.
Seeing Ourselves From the Inside Out
The scan itself was simple and comfortable — completely non-invasive. You just lie still while the machine quietly captures an incredibly detailed image of your entire body.
It’s wild to think that, in under an hour, they can see everything from your muscles, joints, and organs to your lymph nodes, heart, brain, and even early signs of things like aneurysms or cancer.
As I lay there, I thought about how much time we spend trying to “look healthy” — and how empowering it felt to finally know how healthy we actually are. It was a strange but beautiful kind of calm — knowing that information, not fear, was at the center of this experience.

What We Learned
A few days later, we received our reports and met with a CoreViva radiologist who walked us through every finding. The report itself was fascinating — it even included our brain age and joint age, which gave us a glimpse into how our bodies are functioning beyond the surface.
We learned a few natural things — like some wear in our spines and necks (hello, years of carrying kids and sitting at computers). The team gave us simple, specific exercises to strengthen those areas, which felt so doable.
And best of all? We were thrilled with our results — all clear on any visible major health concerns.
Leaving that appointment, Bobby and I looked at each other and just said, “That was worth it.” Because now, instead of wondering, we know.

Reflecting on It All
As we get older, our conversations about health start to change. It’s not about being perfect or chasing youth — it’s about being proactive.
This experience reminded both of us that wellness isn’t just about what you see in the mirror. It’s about what’s happening beneath the surface — your muscles, your heart, your brain — the things that quietly carry you through life.
The CoreViva scan gave us peace of mind, but also motivation. It’s one thing to look good on the outside — it’s another to feel confident that what’s happening inside matches that energy.
So here’s to a new kind of self-care: one that starts from within and grows outward. Because when you understand your body, you can take care of it — together. 💛

Oh wow…my husband and I discussed this with friends not too long ago. As a nurse and radiologist, both in our 70s we are leaning into denial at this point…we do our yearly and periodic health follow-ups and realize that getting a heads up on other early problems probably could be helpful to us. However, we have “grown” up with radiology developments and MRI was a major one…CAT scans were new in out early careers too and no one wanted to try out the new CAT scanner when it arrived in our medical center because they were afraid of what it might find …treatments were not as advanced as they are today for so many of the potentially serious findings. Dani, I am thinking about what having a screening MRI might mean for maintaining my health or how it might help me live a healthier old age. I have a mitral valve problem that was repaired 17 years ago and now the repair has failed somewhat…I am monitoring it, so far so good. I am not anxious for more surgery. I am happy for you and Bobby and think this is the way of the future of health maintenance! xo
Thank you, Lorette! Yes, very important, so when the opportunity presented itself, we jumped on it.
