Cue the crocodile tears.

I swore this day was light-years away. Yet here I am, blinking through tears while my firstborn zips up his cap and gown like it’s just another hoodie. No big deal. Meanwhile, I’m full-on spiraling with a camera in one hand and a soggy tissue in the other.

My baby—the one who made me a mom—is graduating high school. And not just that. Jackson is off to the Air Force Academy (yes, that one!) in Colorado, on a full-ride scholarship to play lacrosse. He’s not just leaving the nest. He’s flying out with military-grade wings and a lacrosse stick.

What?!

From Juice Boxes to Jeep Keys

Jackson has always had that spark. He’s kind. He’s cool. He’s got this quiet confidence that turns heads and calms chaos. He’s a born leader—on the field, at home, and, yes, even in vintage cargo pants and thrifted flannel shirts.

He drives a Jeep with the windows down and the music up. He snowboards like he was born on a mountain. He’s cooler than I’ll ever be, and I’m weirdly okay with that.

Watching him grow up has been the ride of my life. I remember every lacrosse game, every snowboarding wipeout, every “Mom, I got this.” And now, I have to start letting go. Which, by the way, no one warned me would feel like my heart is simultaneously bursting and breaking.

To My Graduate

Jackson, you made me a mother. You taught me how to lead with love, how to cheer louder than any mom in the stands (sorry, not sorry), and how to trust that even when I want to wrap you in bubble wrap, you were built for this world.

You’re heading into this next chapter with strength, honor, and style—classic you. I’m so proud I could scream. I probably will. Apologies in advance to your future dorm mates.

And now… let’s talk gifts.

Because if you’re a mom like me, crying into your oat milk latte, you’re probably also wondering: what the heck do I get a graduate who’s already cooler, braver, and more prepared than I was at 18?

🎓 Final Thoughts

Graduation isn’t just about the tassel flip—it’s about the years of growth, the tears behind the scenes, and the little moments that added up to this massive milestone.

So yes, I’ll be the mom in the front row, sobbing into my Kleenex and trying to clap through the tears. But I’ll also be the mom who’s so damn proud—because this kid, this young man I raised, is everything I ever hoped he’d be… and so much more.

Congrats, Jackson. Now go show the world what you’re made of.
