🍃As we head into the weekend just want to remind everyone that our little ones are watching! I’ll admit I’ve poured a glass of wine without measuring before. And that can make it hard to know how much you’re actually drinking.

☀️I am overjoyed with the love and support that everyone has shown my baby @BossbabyBrody for his 6th birthday! I especially would like to thanks all of the vendors that contributed to this magical mermaid event! @PitchaFete really knocked this out of the park! Not only with they supply gorgeous decorations, crafts, teepees, etc.. but they also put us in touch with so many amazingly creative companies! It is important for us parents to make sure we take time for ourselves. When we recharge ourselves with some me-time it allows us to be able to take on the day with our kids! ☀️Growing up, my daughter Dylan was always a bit reserved. Compared to mama, she was downright shy. But she always had a strong sense of who she was as a kid, a sister, a daughter, a friend and a dancer. 🩰
☀️This year, she turned 13, and I found myself wondering if that might change. Would she stay in her shell? Would she be a leader or a follower? Would she forego her individuality for what’s trending? Would she take the easier path or the hard road that might lead to more growth and potential? Would she stay true to herself? Kind and genuine, determined and courageous.
☀️As any mom of a teen knows, it’s a crapshoot. But, damn am I proud so far.
Earlier this year, Dylan decided to leave her dance school of 6 years. A difficult decision, indeed. She basically grew up there, and while it was an excellent start to her dance career, a new beginning was calling. After much deliberation, she chose the road less traveled, and made the switch. And ever since, I’ve watched her flourish. In her friendships. In school. In her own skin. She mustered up the courage to audition for a company level team and has officially made it! 🩰🙌🏼
You see, what I find amazing is that this decision was all her. And for that I am proud.
☀️It’s amazing what can happen when you step outside your comfort zone. My sweet, brave girl did this all on her own, at age 13. I’m constantly amazed at who she is; and the incredible young woman she is becoming.

🇺🇸 It’s really hard to imagine that 20 years have gone by. I could still remember the chaos, terror, and confusion of that day. I could still smell the rancid air if I think about it. We all know where we were on 9/11 and if you were from New York, you saw the carnage right before your eyes.
I was teaching that day. I remember my school being put on lockdown and for some reason, I had the only cell phone that would work. My cell phone carrier was not out of the trade center as most were. Some of my students were crying because their parents worked in the towers. I didn’t know at that moment 260 people from my community wouldn’t be coming home. Living only eight miles from the city, it was normal to have a career in Manhattan.
Our World Changed
I had airline tickets for that Friday, Newark to San Francisco, a flight path I knew all too well because I was dating someone on and off in the Bay Area. I was sick to my stomach when I found out that one of the planes that crashed was Newark to San Francisco. What if the terrorists chose that Friday? From that very moment, I had an induced fear of flying.
Saying Goodbye to Those We Love
We found out as the days went on the names of those who perished.
I didn’t know Jackie would lose her husband.
I didn’t know I wouldn’t see Jeff again. (Pictured in my carousel)
I didn’t know my students would lose their parents.
I didn’t know Rob on my softball team was gone.
I didn’t know Chris would lose his brother or Christina would lose her uncle.
I didn’t know I would attend ten plus funerals and have nightmares for years to come. On that day, 274 innocent souls were taken from our community. It was a very somber and scary time. Everywhere you looked, the American flag would be blowing in the wind. The flag took on a new meaning that day. The flag symbolized unity, that we can’t fall and won’t be taken down. Seeing the flag everywhere meant we stood together as a city and as a nation. During the following weeks, I witnessed so many people come together to cheer on the human race.
