It started the moment I stopped putting myself last.

The other day, I was updating our family calendar, and somewhere between Vegas dance comps and on set in Kansas City, it hit me: I have become the unofficial cruise director of our family, even when I’m away. I know everyone’s schedule, everyone’s appointments, everyone’s favorite snacks, and apparently every password we’ve ever created. It’s a gift…I think.

What I don’t seem to know is the last time I made an appointment for myself.

Isn’t it funny how that happens?

We spend so much time making sure everyone else is taken care of that somewhere along the way, we quietly move ourselves to the bottom of the list. Not because anyone asked us to. Just because that’s what moms do. If someone needs new dance shoes, I’m ordering them before they even finish asking. If one of the kids isn’t feeling well, I’m calling the pediatrician before breakfast. But when it’s my annual checkup, bloodwork, or anything remotely related to my own health? Somehow there’s always “next week.”

The truth is, life doesn’t slow down the way we always think it will. I remember telling myself that things would get easier once the kids were older. Instead, the little-kid chaos has simply turned into a different kind of chaos. We’ve traded daily practices for national competitions, lacrosse tournaments, carpools, and calendars that somehow require color-coding just to make sense of them.

And honestly? I wouldn’t trade this season for anything. Okay, maybe I’d trade it for more sleep, but who’s counting?

I’ve also realized that loving my family and taking care of myself don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

For a long time, I thought self-care meant squeezing in a facial or botox once or twice a year or drinking my coffee before it got cold. These days, I’ve started looking at it a little differently. Taking care of myself isn’t about escaping my life—it’s about having the energy to fully enjoy it. I want to feel good on those long tournament weekends. I want to keep saying yes when the kids ask me to stay a little longer, take one more walk, or join in instead of watching from the sidelines. That’s become so much more important to me than chasing some unrealistic version of who I used to be.

One thing I’ve noticed over the past year is how openly women are talking about their health. Conversations that used to happen in whispers are now happening everywhere—during dance rehearsals, over dinner with girlfriends, while we’re waiting for practice to end. GLP-1 medications are definitely part of those conversations now, and whether you’ve considered them or not, it’s hard not to be curious when so many women are sharing their experiences.

What surprised me wasn’t the conversation itself. It was how confusing the process could be.

Every company seemed to advertise one price, but once you started clicking around, there were membership fees, consultation fees, subscriptions, automatic renewals, and enough fine print to make your head spin. I don’t know about you, but if I’m making decisions about my health, I don’t want to feel like I’m solving a puzzle just to figure out what something actually costs.

That’s honestly what stood out to me about FMMEDS.

The FMMEDS Difference

Before I ever cared about medications or treatment options, I appreciated the transparency. The pricing is straightforward. There aren’t hidden membership fees or surprise increases later on, and the care is doctor-led, so you’re actually working with licensed providers who determine whether treatment is appropriate for you. In a world where so many companies seem to make things unnecessarily complicated, that simplicity felt refreshing.

The older I get, the more I appreciate honesty. Whether it’s healthcare, skincare, or booking a vacation, I simply want to know exactly what I’m signing up for. Tell me what it costs. Tell me what to expect. Then let me decide what’s best for me.

More than anything, this season has taught me that taking care of myself doesn’t take anything away from my family. If anything, it gives them a better version of me. One with more energy, more patience, and more capacity to enjoy all of the little moments that seem to go by faster every year.

So if you’ve been putting yourself last—because the calendar is full, because everyone else comes first, because life feels busy—I see you. I’ve been there, too. But maybe it’s time we stop waiting for life to slow down before we decide we’re worth taking care of.

Because the truth is, the calendar will always be full. There will always be another practice, another tournament, another school event, another Amazon order waiting to be placed.

The one thing that shouldn’t keep getting pushed to “next week” is us.
