How a Custom Wallpaper Mural Transformed My Bathroom

Over the past seven years in our home, I’ve been in full creator mode—transforming nearly every space along the way. New furniture, refreshed décor, upgraded lighting, cozy patio sets, custom tile around the fireplace, pergolas, a new pool… you name it, we’ve touched it.

But somehow, the one space that stayed completely untouched? My bathroom.

Which is wild, because I spend a good chunk of every single day in there—getting ready, hiding from the chaos, and sometimes just enjoying a moment of peace with the door locked. It should have been my sanctuary from the start… but for years, it wasn’t.

Then one small change—fixing my broken blinds—set off a chain reaction that completely transformed the space into my favorite room in the house.

For two years—yes, TWO—I lived with broken blinds in my bathroom. At some point, I literally forgot I even had a view. Like… who does that?!

The Starting Point: One Big Vision

When I first started dreaming about this space, I knew I wanted it to feel like an exhale. As a mom of four (plus dogs, plus husband), the bathroom is my only guaranteed alone time—and it needed to feel like more than just a place to brush my teeth. It had to be a retreat.

The first piece I locked in? The wallpaper mural. I fell head over heels for the Close Range design by the insanely talented Jill Malek. The moody, serene tones felt grounding but still elevated—exactly the vibe I wanted for my personal sanctuary.

I mixed in budget-friendly finds from HomeGoods, Wayfair and Kohl’s. This is my favorite way to design—splurge on the thing that makes your heart race, then fill in the rest with pieces that feel luxe without the luxury price tag.
