Decorating Mirrors With Roses for Floral February

February is just weeks away! The month of love, romance, and heart-shaped boxes of chocolate. But in my home, it’s also when I start to think about decorating for spring. Next month, the weather starts to lose a little bit of its chill and the inner home designer in me starts to think about how I can redecorate for a new season. This time, I partnered with my friends at Arhaus to bring you a step-by-step on decorating your mirrors with a beautiful floral garland! It’s vintage, it’s romantic, and my beautiful Arhaus Amelie mirror makes my entrance pop with ready-for-spring drama.

February comes from the Latin word februa, which means “to cleanse.” The month was named after the Roman Februalia, which was a month-long festival of purification and atonement.

Find Your Favorite Flowers

For my garland I chose to go with faux flowers—they are more expensive but they last longer and I can keep my beautiful flowers to reuse year after year. I can even repurpose them throughout the house! Choose real or faux flowers—I got my roses at Michaels—and choose which type of flowers you want to use. To me, roses just feel romantic, but choose your favorite florals!

Get some vines to weave into your flowers. I bought five different ones and filler vines to make sure my arrangement looked full and natural. The key here is also to make sure you’re using different-sized flowers—nothing too uniform or symmetric. You want it to feel natural like you brought the garden inside. Pick up some floral foam, floral wire, and scissors to make sure you have everything you’ll need.

The world’s oldest living rose is believed to be 1,000 years old. It grows on the wall of the Cathedral of Hildesheim in Germany and its presence has been documented since A.D. 815.

Start Working Everything Together

If you’re using natural flowers make sure you prep them—cut off excess leaves, and trim the stems. If you’re using faux, take off all the tags and bend them into the positions you want, adjusting as you go. For natural flowers, you can add fullness by pinching the edges of your flowers to open them up. After, gently blow into the center of the flower to expand the petals. Now we can start decorating with our mirror garland!

To start, attach your floral foam to your mirror to give it a strong base. I used Command anchor hooks to secure the pieces. Using foam for this arrangement helps gain flexibility with the flowers while building, and gives you a strong starting point to work from. Since the Amelie mirror is large and the final arrangement will be even bigger, I kept the flowers soft, sweet and delicate.

It’s a quick and fun decorating project but it has a huge impact on the look of your mirror without overwhelming your decor. Make sure that you’re balancing out greenery and color in the floral garland for a more cohesive and demure look. While you’re working, don’t forget to take a step back and adjust as you apply your flowers. By the end, you’ll have a beautiful and spring-ready arrangement that will make your home feel romantic and bright!
