What To Do In San Diego During Christmas Vacation!

Ahhhh Holiday Break! Besides summer vacation, we all know that it’s what our kids look forward to the most! I absolutely adore those extra moments that I get to spend with them too. As a family we are always looking for new and exciting adventures, and living in San Diego, well, this city never fails to amaze me with how many things there are to do. I wanted to share with you some fun ideas of places to go or to see during Christmas vacation here whether you reside in the area as well or are just visiting!

The San Diego Zoo During Christmas Vacation

Where to first!? The San Diego Zoo; a staple go-to when in the area! During December 14th to January 6th, the Zoo has an ongoing event called Jungle Bells! “See the Zoo transformed into a wild wonderland of twinkling lights, merry performances, festive foods, and fun for all!” They have entertainment such as The Celebration of Lights, activities like Reindeer Games, and some discounted dining At Albert’s Restaurant from 3-5 pm. Lego Land NYE

Lego land is having a celebration like no other this NYE! They’ll still get some good shut-eye that night too because midnight comes around at 6 pm for this event! They’re recreating the Times Square ball drop with a massive Lego brick that falls 22 feet in the air! This is New Years Party is the biggest out there for kids in San Diego so you don’t want to miss it! Fireworks and live music, they have it all! Buy your tickets here!

The Nutcracker In San Diego During Christmas Vacation

You can’t miss this classic tale! A trip to the San Diego Ballet definitely needs to be on your to do list! Grab the kids and go see this magical performance live! The show is going on December 29th for an evening performance at 7, and December 30th which brings us a 2 pm show! Tickets start at 40 dollars and it is worth every penny to see the tale unfold! Holiday Lights Tour During Christmas Vacation In San Diego

Who doesn’t love Christmas lights! They’re some of the most beautiful winter sites over in here in California since we don’t get the sparkling snow! They’re running a Holiday Lights and Sights Trolley tour this year that is a must see! Sing-a-longs, and learning about history and traditions of the town! You’ll go on a tour of Old Town San Diego, Balboa park and more! It’s happening from NOW until December 30th! (Excluding the 24th and 25th) Admission is $25 for adults, $15 for kids 3-12 and FREE for 2 and under! Get your gleam on!

Concerts in Balboa Park During Christmas Vacation

Sunday Funday just got better! Every Sunday afternoon at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion you will be treated to a concert for you and the family to enjoy! They have seating or you can bring a blanket and make it into a picnic as well! They have many different performers this year and the best part about it is that it’s FREE!

Performance of The Grinch During Christmas Vacation

Speaking of concerts! How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musicalis now in session! From now till December 29th, you and the family can experience the tale that started it all live! Here the classic favorites like “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” in person! The kids will go crazy for this as well as our nostalgia! The Old Globe Theater turns into the magical and snowy Whoville and you have to see it to believe it! Get your tickets here!

Skating By The Sea

This year from now until January 1st, 2019, The Hotel Del Coronado is hosting Skating by the Sea! The ice rink over looks the ocean and you’re a step away from the beach! What can get better than that!? Grab a bite to eat and then head over to the rink with the kids! A perfect afternoon in sunny San Diego! $30 dollars per person but the skate rental is free of charge!

Garden of Lights

See the magnificent San Diego Botanical Garden light up for the holidays! It’s going on now until December 30th from 5-830 pm! They have snow for sledding on some evenings, marshmallow roasting, visits from Santa, and more!! The kids will go crazy over this! It’s also a treat for the parents with the offer of mulled wine! The cost is low – $18 dollars for adults and $3 for kids 3-12!

Pictures With Santa

It isn’t Christmas without a picture with Santa! Head to your nearest mall to link up with Santa himself. This is a magical experience for the kids! They won’t believe it when you tell them they get to meet Santa in the flesh! Time for them to start making their lists and prepare their Christmas wishes!!Christmas Vacation San Diego

Holidays By The Bay

A waterfront holiday activity for the family is perfect for night out around town! This event is located in front of the Hilton San Diego and is happening select nights from now until January 25th, from 5-11pm! They have cookie decorating, light shows on the hour, a GIANT outdoor ice slide, a 100-foot ice tubing slide, and more! While you’re in the area also check out the Life Size Gingerbread house by Hiltons and Executive Pastry Chef, Chef Kim!

Holiday Bowl During Christmas Vacation In San Diego

Last but not least, on December 31st at 10am see America’s largest balloon parade. Fun for all and a great way to start off the NYE festivities! Marching bands, floats, drill teams and more! The parade is free but there are grandstand seats available for purchase! Your kids will be in awe as the enormous balloons go by! The holiday’s can get a little hectic so it’s always nice to get everyone together when you can and go out on a family adventure!
