After New York, I did feel restless while spending many years being a military wife moving coast to coast.   During these years Bobby and I never really felt settled.  Instead we knew we had each other and always strived to make anyplace into a home.  It worked for the first few months, but ultimately we always desired to plant permanent roots in a city that offered it all, outdoor life and plenty to do for the kids.JI6A0413JI6A0403
Our last rental was a dream.  We scored a location on the top of a mountain with almost 360 degrees of ocean views.  I loved my nine months of pretending we were billionaires.  Dr. Seuss’s house was down the block and also the Romney’s were close by.  Watching the countless planes pass by with some landing on the roofs of homes was surreal.  Plane watching was the favorite part about my time in Lajolla.  I just love the nostalgic feeling I get when I see old school planes from the 1950’s doing tricks.

To better explain this place, just picture as you are eating dinner, you look out of your window and see the planes below.  Our home was actually higher than the planes flying.  This unobstructed view we will certainly miss and this was our sweet Brody Hudson’s first home.  La jolla will always have a special place in my heart.  Even though this was temporary, we feel very lucky to have experienced this beauty.FullSizeRender copy 2 FullSizeRender-3

Back to Reality

So today we are closing on our very first home here in Southern California.  The toys are packed, the memories are shelved, and we are onto our next chapter.  We finally got the KEYS to our very own place.  A little late to start the Christmas season, but better late than never.  Thank Goodness Buddy the elf follows us year after year, home after home.  And what better gift to give our children then their very own home.

I did not know how upsetting it would be to not have a tree those first two weeks of December.  But with our impending move, and boxes everywhere, we just couldn’t do it.  So to get the kids super excited about our home, we rushed out and grabbed the biggest tree we could find.  Good news for our wallet was that the trees are usually on sale this late into the season.

JI6A4451 JI6A4445 JI6A4447 JI6A4438The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of events after.  For the normal family, Christmas alone is enough to make you feel overwhelmed.  However, for us we had my birthday, Bobby’s birthday, closing, moving, the children’s Christmas performances and countless Christmas parties.  And let’s not forget we have a newborn.  It’s never easy moving, but during the holiday season does make it that much harder. We are doing what we can to make our beautiful place feel like a beautiful home. The kids are helping and wearing their Christmas gear.  We are playing Christmas favorites on the radio and writing letters to Santa each night.

What I have learned through all of this, is that it really doesn’t matter if you move from rental to rental, state to state or coast to coast.  As long as we have each other is all that really matters.  Taking your Christmas cheer with you is essential during a holiday move.  There are plenty of holiday events you can check out in the midst of the madness.  Its worth it for the kids, so go see Santa or even a tree lighting ceremony.  It’s not worth it to get bogged down when you move during the holidays.  Enjoy what you have and make the best of it.  After all, there are plenty of service men away from their families during Christmas.  Time for us to SANTA-UP and say a blessing for all of those who can’t be home and be grateful for all that we have!  I would love to hear from you… Comment below!tree JI6A4421 JI6A4414 JI6A4429JI6A4347
